In older times and even by some witches’ standards, witchcraft has to look pretty and mysterious. I am here today to tell you fuck that. Witchcraft is fucking weird!
You talk to dead people.
That rock has healing powers.
You talk to omnipotent people in the sky.
Those herbs do more than make dishes taste good.
That deck of cards can tell the future.
You make things happen just by focusing really hard and wanting it badly enough.
Why exactly do you need so many jars?
What do you mean people still worship those gods we used to learn about in middle school?
Witchcraft is already weird, when you boil it down to its barest essence. So why is there any kind of stigma about doing nontraditional things because they’ll make your craft “weird”?
I keep an anime figurine beside my altar because it makes me feel spiritual when I pass it by.
I chant lyrics to a song from my favourite childhood anime because it helps me focus as I shuffle my Tarot cards.
My portable altar is inside of a Yu-Gi-Oh! tin.
My boss at work laughed because I gave my favourite crystal a name. (his name is Jay, btw)
I give my cosplays to my gods as offerings.
I wrote spells after characters I love in cartoons.
I know people who use playing cards and Magic the Gathering decks for divination.
I use a Gem Destabilizer cosplay prop from Steven Universe as my athame.
If it has significance to you, it can have a place in your craft. Never be afraid of letting your witchcraft be weird or unorthodox!
I’ll mention that there’s an old spell book with a spell that involves a woman sticking a live fish in her vagina, keeping it there until it dies, then cooking and feeding it to the man she wants to be her lover. Witchcraft is weird as mess, and I love it!
